Stage and Controller Compatibility

The following table lists all Newport positioners and the compatible Newport motion controllers. Most stages feature ESP technology that provides true plug and play compatibility, wherein the Newport controller recognizes the connected stage and automatically uploads the stage operating parameters. This eliminates the risk for incorrect setting of parameters. Listed also is the maximum power consumption for each stage when used at maximum speed, with full load and at maximum acceleration. In order to be able to operate all stages simultaneously, and at these values, the total power consumption of all stages connected to the same controller (same power supply for SMC100) must be less than the power of the controller's power supply: 750 W for XPS-D, 300 W for the XPS-RLD, 150 W for ESP302 and 80 W for SMC100.

Dedicated controllers like CONEX, FCL, Agilis, iPico and NanoPZ are not included in this table, but additional information is available for these at their respective product pages.

Compatibility Footnotes

  1. Speed is reduced by a factor of 2.5 from the speed specified in the stage data sheet (ie, 40% of rated speed).
  2. MIM is equal to 1/20 of full step (contact technical support team for more information on stage specific full step).
  3. E5820A adaptor required when used with XPS-D/XPS-RLD.
  4. A cable kit is required to pair with the driver module. Check the compatibility in XPS Series Motion Controller to Stage Cable Kits family.
  5. Compatible with XPS-D only.
  6. When used with XPS-RLD, plug XPS-DRV01 to slots other than slot 1.
  7. When used with XPS-D or XPS-RLD, plug XPS-DRVP1 into slots other than slot 1.

*When stages are not driven synchronously, consider the maximum power consumption only for the stage with the highest power consumption and use a 70% reduced RMS power for all other stages. Applies only for stages with this footnote. When stages are driven synchronously, consider the maximum power consumption for all stages.
