Features
Convenient Platform for Optical Assemblies
These solid aluminum, nonmagnetic, optical breadboard plates provide a low cost, convenient platform for building optical assemblies, small optical experiments and optical subsystems. Our wide variety of breadboard accessories make it easy to incorporate these breadboards into larger optical systems with ease.
Low Reflectance Working Surface
These solid aluminum optical breadboards have a matt black anodized surface that reduces unwanted reflections compared to honeycomb breadboards that use a stainless steel top skin working surface. Anodized aluminum is also non-magnetic compared to stainless steel.
Counterbored Through Holes for Easy Mounting
Double Density Solid Aluminum Optical Breadboards feature four counterbored through holes in the breadboard corners, making it easy to retrofit to existing optical tables for increased workspace and convenience. As compared to competitive solid breadboards, our mounting through holes are located on the mounting hole grid. This allows a breadboard mounted to an optical table to have its hole pattern aligned with the optical table hole pattern instead of being offset from it.
Double Density Mounting Hole Grid
The unique double-density hole grid pattern on these optical table tops provides twice the mounting locations of standard 1 inch (25 mm) hole grids. It is ideal for applications that require a dense mounting surface, such as laser cooling, atomic physics, and spectroscopy.
The standard 1 inch (25 mm) hole grid pattern is shown on the right. A double density hole grid pattern with additional mounting holes is shown on the left.
Our 90º Optical Breadboard Mounting Brackets are ideal for mounting SA2 Series Solid Aluminum Breadboards in a vertical orientation. The brackets are rigid with slotted mounting points and are available in 6, 12, and 18 inch sizes. Our 360 Series Angle Brackets can also be used for rigid and accurate 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90° breadboard mounting.
Vibration Isolated Breadboard Mounting
Sorbothane Vibration Isolation Mounting Feet are ideal for isolating a small SA2 breadboard from a standard workbench. The mounts are sold individually and supplied with a 1/4-20 or M6 thread for easy mounting. They are offered in 50 or 70 durometer. For heavier loads simply add more mounts. For optimum isolation use the mounts at as close to the maximum load as possible.
Elevated Removable Breadboard Mounting
Our Optical Posts can be used for elevated solid aluminum optical breadboard mounting with easy repeatable installation and removal of the breadboard. The precise position of the SA2 breadboard is maintained with pegs.
Elevated Pedestal Breadboard Mounting
Solid aluminum breadboards can be mounted above a optical table or optical breadboard at a fixed height using Optical Pedestals and Clamping Forks. The optical pedestals provide a rigid and stable mounting points for the corner mounting holes, and the clamping forks allow for easy relocation on the surface of the table.
Perimeter Shields for Optical Breadboards
Perimeter Light Shields provide simple beam block protection and security for your optical breadboard setup. The shields are easily mounted to perimeter breadboard holes and mounting slots offer positioning flexibility. A unique method of slotting two shields together eliminates seams and reduces any light leakage.
These Kinematic Breadboard Adaptors allow you to remove and replace SA2 breadboards while preserving the final alignment. They mount directly to SA2 series breadboards either on the top side or bottom side of the breadboard. Top-side mounting provides the lowest surface height but leaves less mounting area on the breadboard.
Mechanical Vibration Isolation Mounting
Our VIB100 Super Compact Mechanical Vibration Isolators can be used to isolation mount our SA2 solid aluminum breadboards. VIBe™ technology works in horizontal direction by utilizing ball bearings sandwiched between precision raceways, forming the plane of isolation. When the ball bearings displace and restore into their positions in raceways, they act like nonlinear springs that cut off the transmission of vibrations. Shown is a Michelson Interferometer set up on an SA2 breadboard.
Optical Breadboard Handles
Optical Breadboard Handles are ideal for lifting and handling SA2 optical breadboards. Made in Italy with reinforced glass fiber, these handles are robust, light weight and resistant to oil, solvents and other chemical agents.
Optical Breadboard Selection Guide
Optical breadboards are selected based on performance criteria like damping and stiffness based on the application. Once the type of breadboard required is determined you can choose the surface size that will support your application.
