Features

The Clear Edge Advantage

With the Clear Edge design, beams can be reflected from one mount to another at smaller incident angles (Φ) taking less space between the mounts (d). Clear Edge Mounts are also ideal for compensating for pulse dispersion effects through multiple reflections on Chirped Mirrors.

Locking Hex Adjustment Screws

ULTIMA Clear Edge Hex-Driven Mirror Mounts feature Allen-key adjustments to save space and prevent unintended adjustment. For long-term stability, Flexure lock is included in select models. The flexure lock built in the mount body, used for U50-AL and U50-AL1 models, and the flexure lock integrated in the adjuster’s bushing, used in U100 and U200 models, exert a tangential force on the adjustment screw to prevent rotation. Both adjustment and locking actions are accomplished using a single tool from the same side of the mount.

Replaceable Actuators

The ULTIMA's industry-standard clamp design (excluding the U50 models) allows many different types of actuators to be used to adjust the mirror position to meet the requirements for any application. Actuators can be replaced with ease by simply loosening two screws to allow the actuator to gently slide into and out of the mount. ULTIMA mounts are compatible not only with standard knob and hex-key adjustment screws, but also with micrometers and motorized actuators. See our Recommended Compatible Actuators in the Accessories section below.

Right- and Left-Handed Options

Select models are available in both right- and left-handed versions: U100-A2H and U100-A-LH‌-2H, U100-A3H and U100-A-LH‌-3H. They are essentially mirror images of each other to provide flexibility and convenience in optical system setups.

Extra Thick Frame

ULTIMA mounts have extra thick frames for optimal stiffness and exceptional stability. The additional stiffness lowers deflection during adjustment, allowing fast and easy alignment.

Adapters to Extend Utility and Function

Newport offers numerous adapters to substantially broaden the utility and function of the hex-driven ULTIMA Clear Edge beyond the typical mirror mount function. Mirror Size Adapters enable the use of smaller diameter optics. 45° Mirror Mount Adapters can hold mirrors at a 45° angle to the face of the mount, which is especially useful for constructing a periscope. Fiber Optic Adapters provide compatibility with fiber optic components. And other Specialty Mirror Mount Adapters include components that allow the hex-driven ULTIMA Clear Edge to hold cube beamsplitters, objective lenses, thin optics, and replicated parabolic mirrors, and to both hold and allow manual rotation of polarizers.
