Tapped Holes in Both Ends

SP Series Optical Mounting Posts are precision ground 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) diameter stainless steel optical posts. Each post has an 8-32 (or M4 for metric versions) tapped hole in one end and a 1/4-20 (M6) tapped hole in the other end. Each optical mounting post is supplied with a 8-32 (M4) double-ended set screw for joining posts together to create customizable lengths. Different ends of the posts can also be connected with TA-8Q20-10

Eleven Different Height Options

The SP series optical posts are offered in eleven different heights between 0.75 in. (19.1 mm) and 12 in. (304.8 mm). The length of the optical posts, in inches, is the number after the dash in each model number. All eleven models are also available in metric versions, which include an "M-" prefix in the model number.

Compatible With a Wide Variety of Optical Post Holders

These optical posts are compatible with a variety of 0.5 in. Optical Post Holders which lock posts in place over a range of the posts' lengths, giving a continuous and customizable height to the mounted component. Newport's post holder families feature innovative designs such as: a brake-shoe clamp to prevent the post from slipping while making adjustments, a quick-release cam-lock for easy locking of posts, a slotted-base to provide maximum placement flexibility and repeatability, kinematic indentations at the top of the base to allow repeatable rotational alignment, and magnetic bases.

Cross-Drilled Hole for Easy Tightening and Loosening

Posts that are 2 inches and taller feature a 0.1 in. (2.5 mm) diameter cross-drilled hole below the 8-32 (M4) end. By inserting a 5/64 in. (2 mm) hex wrench (or similar tool) into this hole, it can be used to rotate the post to tighten it into or loosen it from the optical table or breadboard more easily.

Convert 0.5 in. optical post to pedestal

(M-) SP-BZ pedestal base adapter features a ¼-20 (M6) threaded hole and attaches to the ¼-20 (M6) end of 0.5’’ post allowing the post to be mounted anywhere on an optical table just like a pedestal. A magnet located inside the base steadies the post prior to clamping it to an optical table using SP-F fork.

Accessories for Customizable Heights and Architectures

Post spacers and threaded extenders are available to offer precise tuning of mounting height to optical posts allowing optics to be mounted at non-standard height. Post collars provide an index point for a specific post height, allowing a 0.5’’ post to be removed from a post holder and returned to the same height. Post-joining angle clamps offer versatile post-post mounting solutions with locking mechanism in place. Fixed 90-degree and adjustable angle versions are available. Optical mount adapter clamps fasten a mount at any angle to a post. Separate adjustment and clamp screws allow you to adjust the position of the mirror without loosening the clamp from the post. For applications where the instrument needs to be electrically isolated, electrical isolating adapters are the best choice.
