These all-in-one Kinematic Device Alignment Stages offer four-axis, five-axis and now six-axis precision control over the orientation of a mounted optic or device, such as a modulating crystal, in an existing optical path. Multiple actuators in a single positioner allow straightforward, compact positioning of perpendicular linear travel and tilt, as well as focus if needed.
The 9031 Six-Axis Device Alignment Stage is ideally suited for intuitive alignment of electro-optic, acousto-optic modulators or lenses. The stage features a removable, 4-40 (M3) threaded top plate to simplify mounting and replacement of optical devices. A top plate is included with the mount but they are also sold individually. Two keying pin holes in the base assist in setting the exact mounting location of the stage in industrial applications. The mounting slots on the 9031 for 8-32 (M4) cap screws are compatible with industry standard mounting hole spacing. This means they can be mounted on to our standard tables and breadboards with nothing more than our 8-32 to ¼-20 (M4 to M6) TR-series thread adapters and screws.
Four-Axis Tilt Aligner provides Alignment of Optical Paths
The 9071 Four-Axis Tilt Aligner allows intuitive alignment of optical tubes or paths with an input and an output like electro-optic or acousto-optic modulators or lenses. Center one end to the laser beam, then adjust the other until the beam emerges. All motions are independent and connected to a single base, so you won’t induce coupled motion while making adjustments. These stages are great for aligning New Focus™ optical modulators.
Five-axis Positioners Added Control of Focal Distance
The 9081 Five-Axis Aligner adds Z adjustment to the single-component alignment stage, allowing the same precise translation along the optical axis. This model also features a removable mounting platform. The 9081 has both 1/4-20 and 8-32 tapped holes in its surface for mounting devices and optics. The 9082 Wide Five-Axis Aligner is similar to the 9081, featuring a wider removable platform with a larger (22 N) load capacity for mounting larger components.
The 9082 has the same 1/4-20 tapped holes and 8-32 tapped holes. Models 9081-M and 9082-M are metric versions of these stages with M4 and M6 tapped holes.
Multi-axis Optic Positioning in a Compact Unit
Kinematic Device Alignment Stages combine the capabilities of multiple, stacked translation stages into a single stage with multiple actuators. These stages are designed to align a device or optic, such an acousto-optic modulator, to a beam path, avoiding the added wobble of combining components for multi-axis positioning. These stages have all degrees of freedom needed to align one optical axis to another. The five-axis stages provide additional control of the focus and the six-axis stage provides roll. Each degree of freedom has one actuator for motion, such that two actuators provide translation when moved equal amounts, while one actuator's motion provides the tilt about the bisecting axis. Rotations of the mounting plate around its center, then, arise from turning two actuator screws in opposite directions.
Available in Vacuum Compatible Versions
Vacuum versions prepared for demanding vacuum environments are available. Several key steps are taken in the design, machining, assembly and packaging of these stages. We incorporate metals into our designs that are known to be vacuum compatible and desired or approved for use in vacuum systems. These materials are chosen from known technical sources such as specifications for CERN and NASA. We only use adhesives and materials in our designs that have recorded test data showing their vacuum compatibility.
Move Your Optic or Isolator Instead of Beam
Our multi-axis stages are designed for applications where precise positioning and high stability are required. Shown here is a typical application of aligning an optical modulator to a laser beam with our four-axis device alignment stage.
