Features
Ideal for Industrial Automation and Production
The 845-PE-RS is a Power Meter that allows connectivity of smart power sensors to automation systems and computers using RS-232 communication. When equipment space is tight or the automation system (PLC)/computer is mandating RS232 communication, 845-PE-RS is an ideal solution. In addition to RS232 output, it also has a configurable analog output which can work in two modes raw and digital. It can reach output voltage of 0-10 Vmax. Its robust connector makes it ideal for use in a semi-industrial environment, assuring firm connectivity of the cable.
The 845-PE-RS, can be integrated into 3rd party systems using a dedicated command set or used with Newport PMMmanger. PMManagerTM is a powerful, easy to install, PC application software that controls the power meter and takes measurement data. The 845-PE-RS includes a calibration certificate, power supply, RS232 cable and a PMManager quick installation guide.
PMManager™ Application Software
PMManager™ is a powerful application software controlling and taking measurement data. It turns a PC into a laser power multi-channel analysis workstation. The PMManager software features include: extensive graphic display of data, advanced measurement processing, data logging for future review, printing of graphs and data, and the ability to connect additional devices during active measurements. The PMManager software package includes the latest PMManager user manual, the COM object manual, the available user command lists, and automation examples written in various programming languages. Please see below or the PMManager Tutorial for more details regarding its capabilities.
Directly Access All Detector Parameters
All detector parameters are directly accessible from PMManager. Major parameters are available on the detector information window, and further functions are available by clicking 'Functions' button.
Extensive Graphic Displays
Various graphics displays are available in PMManager such as Line Plot, Histogram, Bar chart, and Simulated Analog Needle. Multiple data sets on one graph or separate graphs on the same screen are possible.
Data Logging for Future Review
Can be displayed graphically or saved in text format
Log data based on the time interval or on the number of data points
Easily exported to an Excel spreadsheet
Advanced Measurement Processing
Power/Energy Density, Scale Factor, Normalize against a reference
Multi-channel comparisons
User defined mathematical equations: channels A/B, (A-B)/C etc.
Log every point at up to 10 kHz with Pyro sensors in binary mode
Log every point at up to 1 kHz with Pyro sensors in ASCII mode
Position & size measurement with PEPS sensors
Calibration Report Included
Newport certifies calibration performed using standards traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and other recognized national standards laboratories. Included with your new instrument is a comprehensive calibration report. Newport also recommends recalibration every 12 months.
The 845-PE-RS features an analog output, allowing easy connectivity to external controllers or test equipment. Its robust connector makes it ideal for use in a semi-industrial environment, assuring firm connectivity of the cable. There are two different optional modes of analog output available - Raw or Digital:
‘Digital’ analog output is a calibrated voltage representation of the precisely measured (processed) laser power, where the user selected power range is matched to user selectable full-scale values of either 1, 2, 5 or 10 Volts – useful for reading the measurements into an automation system for control and monitoring.
‘Raw’ analog output is a continuous non-digitized amplified signal, sourced directly from the sensor with little conditioning, and routed to the analog output voltage - useful for analyzing the temporal shape of fast laser pulses with photodiode sensors.
Additionally, the 845-PE-RS can function in an autonomous mode, meaning once configured it can measure standalone without any external communication when connected just to a sensor and it’s power supply. In autonomous mode the 845-PE-RS will continue to produce an analog output voltage relative to the measurement – even after a restart.
Low Frequency Power Mode
Low frequency power mode is useful when measuring the average power of pulsed lasers with a frequency in the 5 - 100Hz range. Using the regular power mode with such a laser source can cause beating effects and saturation of the electronics, which causes unstable or incorrect readings in many cases.
An example of such relevant laser sources are VCSEL's, which the 845-PE-RS when in “Low Frequency Power” mode can measure, with steady accurate power readings.
