The 819D-IS-2 Integrating Sphere is our new 2 inch, PTFE based, 4-port integrating sphere, replacing the 819D-SL-2. Its damage threshold is 5.0 J/cm2. The diameter of the 0° port, which can be used as the input port for a diverging beam measurement, is 1 inch. The 180° port comes with a 0.5 inch port plug pre-mounted, to simulate 819D-SL-2, but the port plug can be removed and mounted on any other 0.5 inch port in the sphere. The 0.5 inch port at the North Pole location (top) can be used for fiber optic taping to monitor wavelength. Your measurements will be insensitive to errors caused by detector positioning or problems associated with overfilling, or saturation, of the active area of the detector. All spheres include a baffle between the 0° and 90° ports, which prevents direct illumination from the light source to the detector port.
Integrating Sphere for Diverging Beams
The 819D-SL modular integrating sphere bodies feature three ports located at 0 and 90 degrees, and at the north pole. The new 819D-IS series, which will replace the 819D-SL series, has a port at 180 degrees as well but is plugged. The baffle is located between the 0- and the 90-degree ports. We offer a wide variety of integrating sphere accessories that mount to the port frames, allowing the sphere to be customized for multiple applications.
Divergent Beam Integrating Sphere Applications
Divergent Light Source Power Measurement
The 819D-IS series spheres are configured to be suitable for a divergent beam measurement. A typical configuration has the source beam entering through the 0° port with a baffled detector mounted on the 90° port. Common applications include measuring power of divergent light sources such as laser diodes, lensed LEDs, lensed lamps and lensed fiber. For more details about these applications, please see our Integrating Sphere Fundamentals and Applications tutorial.
PTFE Sphere Material for Demanding Applications
Our integrating spheres are available with Optical PTFE, barium sulfate (spectraflect), and diffused gold sphere materials.
Hydrophobic, chemically inert and thermally stable to 350°C, Optical PTFE based integrating spheres can be used in more demanding environments, including underwater and high or low temperature processes. At the same time, reflectance exceeding 95% from 250–2500 nm, 98% from 310–2100 nm, and 99% from 400–1500 nm make them ideal for even the most demanding measurements from the ultraviolet to the near infrared.
