Adjustable Focusing Lens Assembly

Model 77330 is a useful accessory for Oriel® monochromators and spectrographs. It re-images a source onto the instrument’s input slit or images the monochromator output onto a detector, fiber or sample. It lacks X-Y image adjustment, so it is best used in arrangements where precision alignment is not required (e.g. large source and targets), or where the adjustments are already available (such as with Oriel research lamp housings). The 77330 features standard Oriel 1.5-in. series female and male flanges so it can mount directly to monochromators and other instruments with enclosed beam paths and aligned optical axes.
This assembly accepts a single 1-in. (25-mm) diameter lens (sold separately). The clear aperture is 0.8 in. (20 mm). The lens is housed inside a lens barrel with a focusing sleeve, with a manual focusing lever to move the lens. Threaded holes in the lens barrel let you set the range of the lever adjust, leading to a total lens adjustment range of 2.9 in. (74 mm). For most imaging applications, we recommend a 32-mm focal length lens. The distance from the flange to the slit plane on our monochromators and spectrographs is 0.74 in. (19 mm). With a 32-mm focal length lens, the F/# of the focused beam is F/4.

Dual-lens XYZ Focusing Lens Assembly

Model 77260 is best used for imaging the output of a monochromator onto a detector or fiber. It features a 20-mm clear aperture, can hold two lenses (sold separately), and includes an integral filter holder and manual shutter. The first lens collimates light from the source or monochromator exit and is adjustable ±0.12 in. (3 mm) in the X and Y directions for precise positioning of the image onto small targets, such as fiber bundles. The second lens focuses the collimated beam and can be adjusted 2.9 in. (74 mm) in the Z axis to focus the light.

Single-lens XYZ Focusing Lens Assembly

The 77259 assembly holds a single lens (sold separately) with X, Y and Z adjustments and is ideally used to focus a collimated source onto a small target, such as a slit, fiber or cuvette. This more economical version of an XYZ focusing lens assembly does not include a filter holder or shutter. Its large 1.3-in. (33 mm) clear aperture provides more than twice the throughput of model 77260. With a plano-convex lens, the 77259 will focus a collimated beam or collimate a diverging beam. With a biconvex lens, it will refocus a beam but will also introduce a significantly higher level of spherical aberrations.

XY Focusing Lens Assembly

The model 77258 is a simple, adjustable, low cost lens holder. It is frequently used for focusing the output of a collimated source onto a monochromator. The 77258 allows the lens position to be adjusted by 2 mm in the X and Y directions. The large 1.38-in. (35-mm) clear aperture holder is designed as an alternative for those who do not need a lens holder with focus adjustment. The standard Oriel 1.5-in. series female flange couples directly to Oriel spectroscopy instruments, or the 77258 can be rod-mounted using a #1/4-20 threaded hole.

Spacer Tube Lens Kits

Spacer tube lens kits are available to hold a biconvex or plano-convex lens. They may be used in conjunction with the 77258 to focus collimated light into a monochromator or image the diverging output of a monochromator onto a detector. The F/# of the 1.5-in. (38-mm) lens matches the input acceptance cone of the monochromator. This large lens collects all of the output from an Oriel 1.5-in. series light source and is available in glass and fused silica models.
