Features

Optimized for R&D, Production and Fiber Alignment

Depending on sensor configuration and range, the 1940-R and 2940-R provide up to 200 kHz analog bandwidth, enabling detailed characterization of modulated photodiode signals, pulsed and chopped beams, dynamic waveform behavior, rapid changing optical signals in optical alignment, and more. Real-time acquisition up to 10 kHz allows precise visualization of transient optical changes. A high-speed analog output mirrors the raw sensor signal, enabling oscilloscope or DAQ capture.

Time-stamped Data Acquisition at up to 10 kHz

High-rate, time-stamped data can be logged to the 2 GB internal memory (stores approximately 40 million measurements) or to external storage via user-supplied USB flash drive. Users can immediately review trends, zoom into events, or export data for offline processing. Time-correlation enables tuning, alignment, and automation workflows with precise traceability.

Automation Ready USB, Ethernet, RS232 and Trigger I/O

The 1940-R/2940-R power meters offer extensive connectivity for seamless integration into automated test environments, including USB 2.0/3.0, Ethernet (RJ-45), and RS-232 (9 pin D-type). A trigger in enables synchronized measurements. A programmable analog output with selectable full-scale ranges (0–1 V, 0–2 V, 0–5 V, or 0–10 V), 0.003% of full-scale resolution, and 50 Ω output impedance enables precise interfacing with PLCs, alignment stages, and DAQ systems. Together, these interfaces support remote operation, closed-loop alignment, and efficient data logging across automated production environments.

NIST-traceable with ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation

Each 1940-R and 2940-R ships with a comprehensive calibration certificate performed using standards traceable to NIST with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditations. This ensures high confidence in absolute accuracy from day one and supports annual recalibration routines for long-term measurement stability and audit-ready documentation. Newport recommends recalibration every 12 months.

Compatible with Newport's Wide Range of Sensors

With a standard 15-pin D-Sub sensor connector, the 1940-R and 2940-R Power Meters support Newport's broad range of sensors including:

  • Photodiodes: 818-xx/DB, 918D
  • Thermopiles: 919P
  • Integrating spheres: 819C, 819D,819-xx-1.5

Eight gain ranges spanning seven decades allow precise measurements from femtowatt-level signals up to high-power laser beams, covering telecom, industrial, medical, and scientific wavelengths.

Intuitive Knob-and-Button Interface with 7 inch Display

The knob-and-button interface allows for fast and precise manual adjustment making it ideal for tuning, threshold setting, scaling, and scrolling. The knob provides tactile control for operators who prefer physical inputs and enhances usability when interacting with long menus or graphical zooming. It also allows operators to wear gloves while interfacing the power meter.
