Component Mechanical Modifications

Newport provides a wide range of mechanical modifications to our optomechanical components, enabling precise alignment and seamless integration into specialized systems. Whether you're adapting a standard mount or stage, our engineering team ensures every detail supports your application.

Adjustments to Optic Size, Loading Type, and Axis Height

Mounts can be modified to support a wide range of optic sizes and system geometries, enabling direct integration into your system. We can accommodate small optics under 10 mm in diameter as well as large-format optics commonly used in high-power or imaging applications. Optic mounting configurations can also be adjusted for front or rear- loading and left or right-hand orientation.

Modification for Square Optic Mounting

In this example a HVM-1 industrial mirror mount was modified for square optic mounting by replacing the standard round aperture. The spring clips maintain low wavefront distortion even for the square optic.

Modification for 1/4 inch Optics

In this example, a top-adjust stainless steel HVM-05i mirror mount is reconfigured for 0.25 inch diameter optics. This offers a compact form factor while preserved adjustability and alignment stability.

Flexible Integration of Non-Standard Optical Components

Our mounts and stages can be customized to integrate components such as flow cells, fiber couplers, laser diodes, and beam expanders. Modifications may include custom cutouts, changes to the mounting hole pattern, and the ability to add or eliminate an axis or degree of freedom.

Modification for Stability Under Cantilevered Loads

In this example, on the left is a standard LP-1B Precision Lens Positioner.  On the right is a customized beam expander mount offering adjustable 50–55 mm clamping and a more robust internal design for long-term stability under cantilevered loads. Its widened base simplifies integration into compact systems and minimizes the overall mounting area.

Tuning of Motion Range, Force, and Locking Mechanisms

We can modify components to meet specific load capacity requirements while improving control, repeatability, and system responsiveness. Adjustments may include extended travel ranges for fine positioning, variations in adjustment screw pitch and length, increased spring tension for load balancing, and optimized locking mechanisms to maintain alignment under vibration.

Modification for Integrated Body Locking

In this example, Standard MFM indistrial mirror mount is modified with integrated body locking, engineered to prevent shift for stable, repeatable alignment.

Modification for Increased Spring Stiffness

In this example, a DS series vertical linear stage is customized for increased spring stiffness to provide strong restoring force and maintain alignment under inverted, heavy-load configurations. It also incorporates a larger mounting platform for improved versatility.
