Component Environmental Adaptations

Newport offers opto-mechanical components engineered for high-performance operation in specialized environments. Our solutions can minimize outgassing, reduce magnetic interference, and support ultra-high vacuum and high-energy optical applications through precise material selection and assembly techniques. To ensure optimal performance, we’ve identified and evaluated compatible adhesives and lubricants to reduce outgassing, developed and qualified precision cleaning methodologies, and invested in infrastructure and processes that preserve cleanliness throughout assembly and packaging.

Cleanroom & Vacuum Compatibility

Most of our catalog optical mounts and manual positioning stages can be modified for cleanroom and vacuum environments, ensuring minimal outgassing and contamination in sensitive optical systems.

  • Support V6 (10⁻⁶ Torr) and V9 (10⁻⁹ Torr) ultra-high vacuum conditions
  • Laser Clean and cleanroom assembly protocols available
  • Cleanroom bagging after assembly to maintain cleanliness during transport and integration
  • Venting holes to prevent trapped air and reduce outgassing risk

Nitrogen-purged, Double Vacuum Bag

All vacuum-compatible mounts are packaged inside a nitrogen-purged, double vacuum bag to maintain the contamination-free integrity of the mount.

Material & Finish Customization

We tailor materials and surface finishes to meet specific environmental and performance requirements, optimizing each component for its operating conditions.

  • Non-anodized surfaces to reduce outgassing and photocontamination
  • Specialized greases and epoxies compatible with DUV, EUV, and IR applications
  • Alternate spring and fastener materials for thermal, magnetic, or chemical constraints
  • Surface treatments and cleaning protocols for high-energy optical compatibility

Materials and Finishes Tailored for Application

Materials, finishes, and components are tailored for environmental and optical compatibility. Changes include nickel plating rather than anodization, low-outgassing grease, and added ports for air venting.

Magnetic & Optical Environment Adaptation

We offer customizable non-magnetic materials for use in magnetically sensitive and high-energy optical environments, using materials and assembly practices that preserve system integrity.

  • Less-magnetic versions using low-permeability materials
  • Support for DUV, EUV, and high-energy IR generation environments
  • Assembly methods that minimize interference with beam paths
  • Custom builds available for extreme or specialized applications

Non-magnetic Material Options

Standard components can be customized with non-magnetic material options to meet low magnetic interference requirements.
