Gimbal Optical Mount, Ø6.0 in., 2 BD Differential Micrometers

The SL-A 15ABD Gimbal Optical Mount facilitates fast, accurate positioning of large 6.0 inch (152.4 mm) circular or rectangular optics. Unlimited rotation in elevation and azimuth allow the mount and optic to be oriented in any position in space. Circular optics smaller than the mount’s nominal diameter are securely held inside the mount ring by extendible clamp arms. Circular and rectangular optics larger than the nominal diameter may also be attached to the mounting ring with external clamps. For added versatility, a large aperture in the base allows light to pass through unobstructed. A clutch nut on each axis allows the mirror to be quickly oriented in any coarse position. Locking the clutch nuts enables up to ±1.05° fine adjustment with differential micrometers.

360° Angular Range

Unlimited rotation in pitch and yaw (elevation and azimuth) allow the mount and optic to be oriented in any position in space with true gimbal motion.

SL-A Series Direct Mirror Installation

3 in. (76.2 mm) diameter mirrors can be easily installed into SL8A mounts without the need for adapters. This also applies to 6 in. (152.4 mm) mirrors for SL15A mounts and 8 in. (203.2 mm) mirrors for SL20A mounts. Demonstrated in this video is the direct installation of a 6 in. (152.4 mm) mirror into an SL15A mount.

SL-A Series Mirror Installation with Clamp Arms

SL-A Series mounts include 3 clamp arm adapters that can be attached to the mirror holder so that it may hold optics smaller than the mount's nominal diameter. This video demonstrates the installation of a 4-in. (101.6-mm) diameter mirror into an SL15A Series mount – whose nominal optic diameter is 6-in. (152.4 mm) – with clamp arms.
