Supercontinuum Generation Device, CARS Optimized, 800 nm, fs Pulses

The SCG-800-CARS is a CARS (Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering) optimized supercontinuum generation fiber device for use with 800 nm femtosecond lasers. It contains 12 cm highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber with zero dispersion points at ~775 and ~945 nm. The two closely spaced zero-dispersion wavelengths enable stable, low-noise super continuum generation and allows for control of the spectral shape by tuning the pump wavelength. The fiber ends are sealed and mounted in quartz ferrules. The nonlinear supercontinuum fiber is mounted in a robust, 25mm diameter, 120 mm long aluminum housing, which can be easily mounted onto a translation stage. This white light generation device features built-in beam expansion at the end facets, facilitating easy coupling of the laser input beam and a higher damage threshold.
CARS Applications
Pump the SCG-800-CARS with an 800 nm range femtosecond laser, and it generates a dual peak spectrum optimized for CARS (Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering) applications without the hassle of fiber cleaving and handling. The two closely spaced zero-dispersion wavelengths of the SCG-800-CARS enables stable, low-noise supercontinuum generation and allows for control of the spectral shape by tuning the pump wavelength.
Beam Expansion Geometry
The housing diameter is 25 mm, and its length is 120 mm, which can be easily mounted onto a Newport translation stage. The device also has a beam expansion geometry at the end facets, facilitating easy coupling of the laser input beam and a higher damage threshold.
Recommended Supercontinuum Generation Set-Up
The femtosecond pulses from the Ti:Saph laser should be launched through a Faraday Isolator to avoid back reflections from the other optics and the SCG-800. For best performance, (i.e. shortest pulses and highest peak power) it is recommended to use a prism compressor to compensate for the dispersion in the telescope optics and the microscope objective. As the SCG-800 is polarization preserving, polarization control should be used to align the pump light polarization to one of the major axes in the device. Rough alignment can be accomplished using the guideline engraved on the end-facet of the device. Fine-tuning should be done by monitoring the degree of polarization of the output from the SCG-800. Coupling into the device is best realized with a 40X or 60X achromatic microscope objective. Newport also offers a supercontinuum generation kit that includes one SCG-800 with all the necessary optomechanical and optical components.
