Optical Fiber Coupler, Single Wavelength, 1 x 2, 50/50, 780nm, FC/APC

The F-CPL-S12785-FCAPC single wavelength optical fiber couplers allow bi-directional coupling and can be used to either split or combine signals. This 1x2 coupler with a 50/50 ratio provides optimal performance at a center wavelength of 780 nm in package type A. FC/APC connector ends are standard. It can be used with the 918D-IS-1 fiber optic detector and 22494-01S FC connector (which is included with the 918D-IS-1). See the Related Products tab for more information. Newport’s wide range of Optical Fiber Coupler products have been developed using fused fiber technology.
50/50 Fiber Optic Couplers
50/50 fiber optic couplers are used to evenly split fiber optic light. A 2x2 coupler combines the light on one side and evenly splits it on the other side. A 1x2 coupler works in the same way, but one of the input fibers has been cut short. We offer broadband, narrowband and wavelength flattened versions.
Rugged Housing and Cabling
A semi-ruggedized housing, used on 1x2 and 2x2 couplers at 633, 780, and 850 nm, consists of a stainless steel outer housing from which 1 m long, 900 µm buffered fibers exit through molded strain relief boots. All other couplers feature a fully ruggedized black plastic housing with 1 m long, 3 mm PVC covered pigtails.
Fused Biconical Taper Construction
A fused coupler consists of two, parallel optical fibers that have been twisted, stretched and fused together so that their cores are very close to each other. This forms a coupling region with the length determining the coupling ratio from one fiber to the other. During the manufacturing process, light is launched into an input port and the output power from each output port is carefully monitored. When the desired coupling ratio is achieved, the fully automated manufacturing process is stopped. The resulting coupler is essentially one fiber with two cores that are very near to one another. This process is known as the Fused Biconical Taper (FBT) process.
Wavelength Flattened Fiber Optic Couplers
Wavelength flattened fiber optic couplers extend the optimal wavelength range to a band of ±40 nm around center wavelengths of 1310 or 1550 nm. The wavelength flattened couplers are ideal solutions for applications that require some spectral range around either 1310 or 1550 nm. Unlike the Broadband devices, these will not work well at both wavelengths.
Single Wavelength Fiber Optic Couplers
Single wavelength couplers provide optimal performance at center wavelengths of 633, 780, 850, 1310, or 1550 nm. These devices are designed for the specified wavelengths and come with more options than both the Broadband and Wavelength Flattened devices.
