Mounting Quality Counts
Thomas Bartholomäus, Beda Espinoza
Temperature change is the main source of error in high precision motion systems. This is due to the different linear expansion coefficients of the various materials used in the motion system (aluminum, granite or steel). Additional sources of errors come from surface flatness issues and overhanging loads. Pitch error, proper base support, and load distribution issues are discussed.
