New Generation VIP320X Now Available

With new VIB320X isolators in the design, the new generation VIP320X isolation platforms provide more efficient vibration isolation at low frequency and wider load capacity range compare to legacy VIP320 isolation platforms. The physical dimension stays the same which allows drop replacement for legacy VIP320 isolation platforms.

Legacy VIP320 series isolation platforms are still available. Click here for the complete list of legacy models.

VIBe™ Mechanical Vibration Isolation Technology

The patented mechanical isolation technology features six degree of freedom isolator design to work within a defined range of weight under which the isolators deflect or compress. The amount of deflection is a function of the payload on each isolator. Vertical and horizontal vibration is effectively attenuated and your precision application is isolated from the vibration. It is a great alternative solution for applications that are not suitable for pneumatic isolation.

Superior Mechanical Design

Superior isolation effect in the VIB320X isolators is achieved by combined action of vertical spring and horizontal rollers. The balls are displaced between the parabolic shaped raceways due to micro-vibration and restored to the neutral position by gravity, acting akin to a pendulum. Horizontal deformation of the spring provides additional flexibility, thus leading to low natural frequency (as low as 3.25 Hz) and therefore excellent isolation of horizontal vibration. Isolation of vertical vibration is achieved by specially designed variable-pitch spring. When the load supported by isolators increases, the coils with smaller pitch settle on each other first, thereby reducing the effective number of active coils and increasing the stiffness of the spring. This way the stiffness of the spring increases by the same proportion as the supported mass, which leads to a constant natural frequency over the load range. This CNF (constant natural frequency) property leads to better overall isolation in multi-support spatial systems.

Proper Loading

Each of the VIBe™ isolators in the platform needs to be properly loaded in order to achieve maximized vibration isolation performance. A special gap tool is shipped with the platform to verify the proper loading of the isolators. This gap tool measures 0.56 inch wide by 0.1 inch thick and it is used to determine that the gap in the isolator is more than 0.1 inch but less than 0.56 inch. If the gap is larger than 0.56 inch, the bearing does not have enough weight on it. Conversely, if the gap is smaller than 0.1 inch, it is overloaded.

Build Your Own VIP320X Platform

We offer several standard plates compatible with VIB320X isolators for you to configure your own VIP320X platform. Go to accessories family to find those plates and configure using brackets and VIB320X isolators to build your own platform. Determine the size, weight and weight distribution of your application being isolated, then select the right size plate and right payload version of the VIB320X isolators to support your application. Newport offers mounting brackets VIB-BRKT /VIB-BRKT-L and various B320-ACC series mounting accessories .

4 Standard Baseplate Choices

The platform baseplate is available in four standard shapes, two rectangular (VIP-1218, VIP-1824) and two triangular (VIB-G001, VIB-G002), which have been designed to satisfy the widest range of application needs. The two rectangular baseplates come in 12 x 18 in. and 18 x 24 in. sizes and can be equipped with isolator bearings to support payloads from 5 lbs to over 350 lbs. The triangular models have been designed specifically to accommodate a large assortment of microscope footprints from all leading manufacturers. Special shapes and sizes are also available on request.

5 Isolator Bearing Choices

In total, 5 models of VIB320X isolators that effectively cover a load range from 2-180 lbs are available. This allows users to configure the proper size platform and position isolators in the required locations on a baseplate to support and isolate their instrument, even if the load is not uniform, as in the case of microscopes which are typically heavier in the rear by as much as 50%. VIBe™ Series VIB320X isolator bearings are mechanical isolators available in discrete payload ranges as identified by their part number. For very light instruments, the VIB320X-0211 isolates total payloads from 2-11 lbs per bearing and for heavy instruments the VIB320X-50180 isolates total payloads from 50-180 lbs per isolator. VIB320X Isolators are passive and mechanical and do not require air hoses, maintenance or supporting hardware.
