Like all other products in the Newport VIBe Family, VIB320 isolator bearings are designed to be compact, hassle-free and user configurable. They are the key elements in VIBe Series Vibration Isolation Platforms , providing effective vibration isolation starting from as low as 8 Hz.
VIB320 vibration isolators are in discrete payload ranges as identified by their part number. For very light instruments, the VIB320-0210 isolates total payloads from 2-10 lbs per bearing and for heavy instruments the VIB-110180 isolates total payloads from 110-180 lbs per bearing. In total, 15 models of VIB320 bearings that effectively cover a load range from 2-180 lbs/ isolator are available. This allows users to configure the proper size platform and position bearings in the required locations on a baseplate to support and isolate their instrument, even if the load is not uniform, as in the case of microscopes which are typically heavier in the rear.
Those six-degree of freedom bearings work within a defined range of weight under which the bearings deflect or compress. The amount of deflection is a function of the payload on each bearing. Vertical and horizontal vibration is effectively attenuated and your precision application is isolated from the vibration.
Horizontally: The patented isolator works in horizontal direction by utilizing steel ball bearings sandwiched between precision raceways, forming the plane of isolation. When the ball bearings displace and restore into their positions in raceways, they act like nonlinear springs that cut off the transmission of vibrations. The oscillating motion of the ball bearings have no "natural" frequency, therefore the resonance between the two halves of the isolation plane become physically impossible. As a result, the isolator filters out a broad band of input vibration frequencies and insures a constant level of vibration transmission reduction.
Vertically: Vertical vibration isolation is handled by the Newport proprietary, nonlinear spring mechanism with near zero tangential stiffness for vibrations. The natural frequency of the spring remains relatively low and constant across a large range of spring compression, effectively isolating the vertical vibrations.
Different baseplate options are available for VIB320 isolators to be mounted to the top of a tool frame or other supporting structure. If you would like to mount VIB320 isolators underneath your applications, there are two leveler attachments used to bolt your application to the top of the isolator bearing - the leveler bar, and the leveler stud. Each option provides +/- 0.2'' (5 mm) vertical adjustment.

VIB320 isolators are vital to the VIBe series mechanical vibration isolation platform. The platform consists of 3 or 4 VIB320 isolators, a baseplate and corresponding mounting brackets. The VIB320 bearings attach to the VIBe baseplate via specially designed brackets that feature a threaded aperture to allow leveling adjustment of the platform. The VIBe platform is a compact and effective vibration isolation platform, ideal to support your instruments like microscopes and improve your vibration isolation results.
