New Focus offers sets of five identical 0.5 in (12.7mm) diameter optical posts. Posts are made of solid stainless steel and sets are available for 1.5 in., 2 in., 3 in., 4 in., or 6 in. long posts. These sets are also offered for metric versions with lengths of 38.1 mm, 50.8 mm, 76.2 mm, 101.6 mm, or 150.2 mm.
The reduced-depth boss on the ends of these mounting posts provides more threads and allows shorter screws to make engagement with the post. Most posts use an angled countersink design which cuts into the threaded hole requiring longer screws to engage the post.
Stainless steel is already known as being corrosion-resistant, however the passivation process further strengthens its’ natural coating by improving the exterior surface of the overall part. The passivation process removes unwanted debris and oils from the surface resulting in a post that is extra clean.
