Newport offers an extensive line of specialty optical fiber products. Bend-insensitive, single-mode sensor grade fibers, available with 820, 1310, and 1550 nm cutoff wavelengths, feature a high NA of 0.16, making them suitable for tightly wound fiber spools for a variety of sensing applications. At 1310 nm, for example, the maximum bend induced attenuation, due to 100 fiber turns on a 10 mm mandrel, is only 0.05 dB! Both 80 and 125 um cladding diameters are available, with bend insensitivity increasing with smaller fiber diameter. These fibers are commonly used in fiber optic gyroscope assemblies or in optical fiber payout systems.
