These adapters for Newport 818 (see Low-Power Calibrated Photodiode Sensors) and 918D (see Low-Power Calibrated Photodiode Sensors) series photodiode detectors allow the user to work with optical fibers and 1“ optical elements. Please note that Newport does not calibrate the detectors with any of these adapters mounted.
Fiber Adapters
New! 884-FC and 884-FCA are brand new fiber optic adapters that are directly mounted on an 818 or a 918D series detector head. 884-SMA will soon be available.
The FP3-FH1 Bare Fiber Holder is a cleverly designed fiber clamp that is used to hold 250 µm bare fibers without damaging it. It in turn plugs into the 818-FA2 Bare Fiber Holder Mount, which allows one to attach the assembly to the front end of the detector housing.
FP3/FP4 Series Connector Adapters accommodate optical fibers with SMA, ST, FC, SC and LC connectors. The adapters are attached to the 818-FA Fiber Adapter Mount with two screws.
FP4-CORE Adapters
The FP4-CORE adapters are recommended if the insertion loss of the fiber is a concern in measurements. Index matching gel can be applied between the fiber tip and the adapter window, while the other side facing towards the photodiode has an AR coating. For our germanium and InGaAs detectors whose active diameter is 3 mm, use an FP4-CORE-IR . It has a collimating GRIN lens with the AR coating optimized for 1000–1550 nm. FP4-CORE-VIS/NIR Adapter Cores do not contain collimating optics, and are suitable only for use with our -UV and -SL detectors. The modularity of the FP4-CORE Series allows quick interchangeability into the various FP4 Series fiber connector adapters. Note that the FP4-CORE cannot be used with the FP3-SMA adapter.
Free Space Adapters
New! 884-UDAPT is a universal adapter to make Newport's 818 and 918D series photodiode sensors compatible with the Oriel 1.5 inch Series flanges and Newport's 1 inch Lens Tube family.
883-OH is a 1 inch optic adapter, which gives the most stable optical mounting means for the Newport photodiode detectors. Any filter or lens with up to 0.35" thickness can be accommodated. Newport's A-1.25-1RR retaining ring is included and a spare can be separately purchased.
OD3 Attenuator Adapters
The all new optional 884 Series OD3 attenuators can be purchased separately to extend the optical dynamic range of the photodiode sensor heads by about 1000 times. The 10 mm clear aperture with the cross hair helps the detector alignment to the input optical beam.
