Penta prisms deviate a line of sight or input beam by precisely 90°. In imaging applications the penta prism will neither invert nor reverse the image. These prisms deviate a beam through the same angle regardless of its orientation to the beam. This makes penta prisms valuable for applications requiring an exact 90° deviation without having to orient the prism precisely. The monolithic design of a penta prism also makes it inherently more stable than a system consisting of two mirrors.
Penta prisms are available in 12.7 and 25.4 mm sizes. The geometry of these prisms requires the reflecting surfaces to be coated. The reflecting surfaces of our penta prisms are coated with protected aluminum with a black paint overcoat. The entrance and exit faces are uncoated but can be antireflection coated. Please contact Newport if you require an antireflection coating. |
