A VPH-2 Optical Post Holder shown converted to a pedestal base with the PS-A Pedestal Base Adaptor
Pedestal Base adapters are used to convert standard optical post holders to a pedestal base for optical table mounting flexability. We offer standard as well magnitized versions.
Standard Pedestal Base Adapters
The PS-A and M-PS-A pedestal base adapters screw into the bottom of a standard optical post holder to convert it to a pedestal base version. You can then use a pedestal base clamping fork like the PS-F to secure the optical post holder to an optical table or optical breadboard.
Magnetic Pedestal Base Adapters
Frequently, during an optical experiment setup, post-mounted optic holders are accidentally knocked over, damaging or destroying the optic. This problem can result in significant delays and high replacement costs. To help reduce this risk, Newport has introduced the PS-Series Magnetic Pedestal Bases, which provide a strong 5 lb magnetic hold, allowing experimenters to securely position and align their optical mounts prior to clamping them down. Not only does this reduce the potential for damaging optical components, it also greatly increases the speed and efficiency with which an experiment can be set up. With the PS-Series Magnetic Pedestal Bases, post-mounted optic holders can be quickly positioned to the approximate location on an optical table and securely aligned; all prior to clamping them down. These magnetic bases are available in two different designs: The PS-AZ for attaching to the bottom of standard No Slip Optical Post Holders and the PS-1Z which is the magnetic equivalent of the PS-1 optical pedestal.
Model 9904 Magnetic Pedestal Base
The convenience of a magnetic base with the same stability and low beam height of our pedestal risers. This pedestal base is great in applications where tight space means you cant use a holding fork. The magnet is strong enough to maintain its position as you make adjustments, but it allows you to do some fine positioning with a firm push. Once your mount is positioned, you can even use our holding forks to lock these pedestals in place.
If you want the flexibility of an adjustable-height post system but like the versatility of our forks, use this base with your post holders. This pedestal base differs from our pedestal risers, since it has a 1/4-20 (M6) clearance hole to fasten to posts or post holders.
Newports Center-mounted magnet provides over 4 times the tip resistance of the competitors 3 perimeter-mounted magnet design.
The PS-AZ , shown with center-mounting magnet, has a 1/4-20 (M6) thread for attaching to the base of VPH-series post holders.
The PS-1Z , shown with center-mounted magnet, has an 8-32 (M4) thread for mounting PS-series Extension Posts.
The PS-AZ , mounted on the base of VPH-series post holders, helps prevent accidental tipping of V100-CP mirror mount.
