Features

Highly Versatile and Highly Stable

PS-Z 1 in. (25.4 mm) diameter magnetic base optical pedestals are made from precision ground stainless steel to maintain long-term optical system alignment. Slotted pedestal bases, machined directly into the posts, provide versatile positioning and mounting directly to optical tables and breadboards using clamping forks. Each optical pedestal is marked with index grooves spaced by 1 in. (25.4 mm) for quick height reference and easier rough alignments.

Magnetic Bases for Fast and Easy Alignment

PS-Series Magnetic Pedestal Bases feature a centered magnet on their 1.25 in. (31.8 mm) diameter to offer much easier alignment and clamping of optical mounts to optical posts and rods quickly and easily. The stable 5 lb. (22 N) hold prevents post-mounted optics from accidentally knocks and unwanted misalignments while clamping the base to its surface. This also allows more secure holds for rough alignments of multiple or temporary components to speed up fine alignment processes.

Tip Resistant to Protect Your Optics

The magnet is centered on bases to provide, geometrically, the most stability for these circular designs. The increased torsional resistance provided by this architecture, as opposed to a perimeter mounted design, can be seen in the plot of torque vs. tipping angle.

Spacers and Extensions for Custom Heights

PS-Z optical pedestals can be stacked with PS-E extension posts and PS spacers to provide custom mounting heights. Extension posts feature threaded hole in both ends and a variety of heights from 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) to 4 in. (101.6 mm). Spacers with centered clearance hole are available from 0.031 in. (0.79 mm) to 0.25 in. (6.35 mm) in height.

Wide Variety of Pedestal Accessories

Post clamps provide the option of securing an optical mount at any position and any angle to a post and feature the 8-32 thread common to the series. 45-degree mirror mount adapters allow a mirror mount to be post-pointed at a fixed 45° pitch angle, which is ideal for periscope applications. For versatile, high-stability mounting in multiple dimensions, our modular construction cubes are the best choice. And to facilitate flexible mounting and stacking of optical posts, 8-32 (M4) to ¼-20 (M6) thread adapters are available.

Cross-Drilled Hole for Easy Tightening and Loosening

These pedestals feature a 0.234 in. (5.9 mm) diameter cross-drilled hole. By inserting a 3/16 in. (5 mm) hex wrench (or similar tool) into this hole, it can be used to easily attach or detach an extension post or optical mount on its top.

Stable Low Beam Height Platforms

Pedestal posts allow for a low beam height, maintaining high stability and long-term alignment. Clamping forks let you locate them anywhere on an optical table.

Periscope Beam Steering Applications

A beam steerer can be built by attaching an extension post to a pedestal post and adding sliding clamps with mirror mounts.
