Calibration |
We offer calibrated versions of most of these detectors. The standard (VIS-IR) silicon detectors are calibrated from 400 -1100 nm. The UV detectors are calibrated from 200 -1100 nm. |
Detectors and Applications |
Most of the silicon detectors offered here are operated in the photovoltaic (unbiased) mode. The photovoltaic mode of operation offers the lowest noise for DC and low frequency operation, since it avoids the shot noise associated with bias currents. Two units come with standard DC bias arrangements producing 1 ns, and less, rise times. We offer these in 1 mm (model 71894) and 0.5 mm (model 71895) diameters. The low cost detectors, models 71608 and 71648, allow measurements when light tightness, such as provided by the 1.5 Inch Series flange system, is not necessary. |
TE Cooling |
Use the room temperature Si detectors for most of your applications. Use the single stage TE cooled/stabilized models when absolute reproducibility of readings is essential, especially when working above 1 µm. The 77055 Cooler Controller allows full function of the TE cooled devices. |
50Ω Termination |
Use a 50Ω termination when measuring ≤100 ns pulse widths or ≥10 MHz modulated signals. This will eliminate reflected electrical signal echoes from spoiling the fidelity of your measurements. |
Amplification |
Detectors are available with and without a built-in transimpedance amplifier. The table gives the gain/bandwidth information for the transimpedance amplifier. The amplifier provides transimpedance gains from 104 V/A to 109 V/A. It also offers three selectable time constant settings to allow you to match the upper bandwidth limit with your experimental needs. Operating at the lowest bandwidth setting allows you to operate at the lowest noise levels. The amplified models require +/-15 V DC; the 70703 Power Supply provides the required power. |

| *The bandwidth is inversely proportional to gain only up to the limiting bandwidth of the amplifier. There may be a lower system limit due to the detector or other electronic element. |
Mounting |
With the exception of the miniature silicon detectors (models 71648 and 71608), you can rod mount or flange mount these detectors. The enclosures, in which the detector elements are housed, have a ΒΌ-20 tapped hole in the bottom, and an Oriel 1.5 Inch Series female flange. This flange lets you couple these detectors directly to Oriel Monochromators. |
Connectors and Cables |
All detectors have a BNC connector for signal out. All but the 71608 and 71648 Detectors come with a 6 ft. (1.8 m) long BNC cable. The amplified models additionally include a 6 ft. (1.8 m) long cable with 3 pin banana plug for connection to the 70703 Power Supply. |
