New Focus Mirror Mounts
All our mounts are designed to be kinematic. We use sapphire seats and three ball-tipped 1/4-80 screws to kinematically position the front plate. One screw is seated in a cone, the second in a V-groove, and the third against a flat. Because the cone gives three points of contact, the V-groove, two and the flat, one, the plate is held in exactly six places, and thus is kinematic. The hard, smooth, sapphire seats prevent the balls from denting the surface, reducing friction. This translates into mounts with superior stability and durability.
Classic: Our original mounts that offer superior stability at a great price.
Valu™ Mount: Our most economical mounts that offer you the best performance for your dollar. These mounts have two adjustment screws, while the Classic mounts have three. Ideal for when cost is an issue.
Commercial: Ideal for industrial applications (and laboratory too), these mounts offer two adjustment screws, extra-stiff springs, locks and two mounting holes per side.
Stability™ Mount: These mounts provide the ultimate in stability. Their unique optic-retention system minimizes wavefront distortion while maximizing stability
Pint-Sized: These mounts are only half the size of our Classic mounts, yet can still hold 1/2" and 1" optics.
Tiny: Truly compact, stainless-steel mounts that hold 1/2" optics. Vacuum-compatible, too.
Mount Styles
We offer a variety of kinematic mounts so you can find one for your application. Center and corner mounts are offset by 1" in our English version and 25 mm in our metric versions in both the horizontal and vertical directions. This allows corner and center mounts to be used together in the same setup by simply taking a “step” on an optical table.
Center Mount
The traditional style where the optic is in the center of the mount. Turning one screw results in slight translation.
Corner Mount
Our original design where the optic sits in the fourth corner of a square defined by it and three adjustment screws. With corner mounts, you get tilt, tilt without translation (turn two adjacent knobs an equal amount), and pure translation (turn all three knobs an equal amount).
Blank Mount
Blank mounts have four threaded 8-32 (M4) holes so you can mount that unusual optic. Or use the mounts horizontally as a low-cost tip-tilt stage.
Gimbal Mount
These gimbal mounts deliver increased stability and true tilt without translation.
Opti-Claw™ Mount
The claws of the unique Opti-Claw mount are shaped and cammed so that the center of any optic (from 1/8" to 2" diameter) is the same distance from the table, eliminating the need to adjust the height when you want to use a different diameter optic.
Top Mount
Perfect in tight situations when you need all adjustments easily accessible from the top without worrying about blocking your bea
Flipper™ Mount
A traditional mirror mount on a hinge so you can easily move the optic into and out of the beam path.
Ordering Options for New Focus Mirror Mounts
Please specify the following suffixes after the model number for the following options:
Metric Versions
“M”: Many of our components are available in separate English and metric versions. Our mechanical drawings show measurements of English versions in inches and metric versions in millimeters. The numbers in parentheses are always the dimensions of the metric version, which may not always be equivalent to the English. To specify metric when available, add “M” to the model number. These versions have M4 clearance holes instead of 8-32. The beam offset between center and corner mounts is an even 25.0 mm.
Allen-Key Option
“-K”: While most of the actuators in our mounts come with knobs, for some models, Allen-key adjustments can be substituted. These “knobless” versions have 1/8" or 3-mm Allen
hex-key adjustments instead of knobs. Separate removable knobs are also available.
Micrometer Option
“-C”: For 100-pitch micrometers instead of screws, add -C to the model number.
Locking Option
“-L”: These versions have locking actuators that have a setscrew that pushes up against the 80-pitch lead screw.
Vacuum Option
“-V”: These mounts use special low-outgassing materials and adhesives, and clean assembly practices to achieve vacuum compatibility to 10–6 Torr.
