Newport offers the widest selection of Linear Translation Stages anywhere. Additionally, these stages compromise only a part of a modular system of products that can be combined to provide virtually any required motion or adjustment. The primary construction and performace criteria for each stage type is shown below.

Material

Stainless Steel: Stainless-steel stages are heavier with a lower thermal expansion delivering better long-term stability and higher precision.

Aluminum: aluminum stages are lighter and designed for reconfigurability.

Bearing Type

Crossed-Roller Bearings: Crossed-roller bearings have a large contact area between the mounting plates and base plates which ensures precise linear travel and high accuracy. Compared to standard ball-bearing stages, crossed-roller bearings provide improved repeatability and the ability to handle heavier loads. In addition, the bearing reference surfaces are precision ground to ensure minimal angular deviation about any axis.

Gothic-Arch Ball Bearings: Gothic-arch grooves enable the balls to contact the guideway at four points so that the load and momentum are evenly distributed resulting in higher stiffness than other types of bearings as well as high repeatability and smooth motion.

Ball Bearings and Rods: Standard ball bearings and rods provide a high degree of accuracy at a reasonable price.
