These 1.5 in. diameter solid steel mounting posts are equipped with magnetic pedestal bases for the most versatile and convenient positioning. Optical components can mount directly to these posts like standard posts and are available in many (combinable) sizes.
Constructed from solid stainless steel, the SR Optical Support Rods are designed for maximum stability by integrating multiple features into a single part. Rather than having several separate adaptors, these support rods have a machined-in pedestal base for use with SR-F clamping forks and multiple machined-in mounting holes.
The unique bases of these posts are their key feature. The machined-in pedestals eliminate the need for an extra attachment before mounting to an optical table or breadboard with clamping forks. This not only adds to overall stability, but provides the most flexible positioning for mounting to an optical table or breadboard. Finally, magnets located in the bases of these rods/posts hold them in place temporarily to make mounting and system alignment much easier. The SR-Z rods have a centered ¼-20 (M6) threaded mounting hole and two additional 8-32 (M4) mounting holes are in line with, and offset by a ½-in. (12.7 mm) from, the centered hole. These two additional mounting holes are for directly attaching mirror mounts to the rod without a separate adaptor, acting as an optical post.
A host of accessories for the rods are available, such as threaded extension rods (SR-E), spacers (SR-S), mounting cube and thread adaptors (SR-Q), sliding clamps (SR-SC) and mounting adaptors (SR-ADP) to allow mounting certain optics at non-standard heights. The SR-B pedestal base is also available without the magnetic feature, which can be combined with SR-E extension posts, SR-S spacers, and the SR-ADP mount adapter for multiple height configurations. The SR-4P is a special purpose extension rod for use with the SR-SC sliding clamp. It features a V groove along the axial length of the rod to support the sliding SR-SC clamp and its spring-loaded linear motion. This prevents undesired rotation during alignment, and with Newports patented peg fastener, two SR-4P can be aligned as a composite system. In addition to compatible rod mounting cubes, the steel Aegis Qube Beam Routing System can also be used with the SR series rods via an adaptor (Q-XE-RA-1). This rod adaptor is made to attach to Q-OC-1 cubic enclosures and provide stable mounting of optics in 3-dimensional configurations.
