68840 Deuterium Lamp Power Supply with Series Q Lamp Housing.

Fully Featured Model

The 68840 lets you run the lamp at a current from 200 to 550 mA. You can pre-set it to the desired constant current prior to lamp start-up. All of our, and most other, deuterium lamps run at 300 mA, but you may want to run one at a higher current to increase the brightness, albeit at the expense of lamp life. At 500 mA, average life is reduced by ~40%.

Although the 68840 is a highly regulated power source, there are factors that affect output stability beyond the power supply's control. These include: lamp aging, optics throughput variations, and ambient temperature changes. The 68950 Light Intensity Controller works with the 68840 to ensure long term output stability. (You need the 68842 Cable to connect the 68840 to the 68950).

Low Cost OEM Model

The 68942 was designed for simplicity and economy. It only has an ON/OFF switch. Two LEDs indicate the status of the interlock and lamp. The current is fixed at 300 mA. If you don't need to adjust the lamp's current, and don't require the optional 68950 Light Intensity Control System, the 68942 is a smart alternative to the 68840. This is the power supply we use with the Series Q Deuterium Sources.

Tech Note

Deuterium lamps require filament power and anode-cathode voltage of at least 350 V to initiate the discharge and then, for best performance, carefully regulated discharge current. The 68840 and 68942 are constant current power supplies. Until the deuterium lamp reaches thermal equilibrium, the radiated output varies. After approximately 10 to 15 minutes, the output will be almost completely stable. For applications requiring extreme stability, an additional 15 to 30 minutes of warm-up may be required. This is particularly important when using the 63345 Calibrated Lamp.
