Why The Simplicity Series Systems?

For many applications, the versatility of a Fully Featured Arc Lamp System is not a requirement. If you have a fixed lamp requirement, and do not need the features described below, the Simplicity Series Sources are a smart alternative:

Fixed Lamp Operation

Each source includes a power supply that is factory pre-set to operate a specific lamp - no need to set the voltage, current, or power.

Highly Stable Output

These sources are just as stable as our Fully Featured Systems. However, for critical applications requiring the optional Light Intensity Control System, choose a Fully Featured model. The Simplicity Series do not operate the Light Intensity Control System.

Lamp Usage

One of the features we removed, in order to keep the costs of these sources down, was the ability to monitor the lamp's usage.

Factory Pre-set Parameters

Because the power supply is factory pre-set to run the specified lamp, we eliminated the ability to adjust and display the lamp's operating parameters.

What Makes Up These Sources?

These systems come complete with all the necessary components to begin work. They include:
  • Lamp Housing with an F/0.7 or F/1.0 condenser and a built-in ignitor
  • Power supply pre-set to specified lamp
  • Arc lamp and socket adapter
  • All necessary cables and mounting hardware

Lamp Housing

The lamp housing is an aluminum enclosure; it holds the ignitor, lamp, and collecting and collimating optics. It has a number of safety features built-in, to prevent accidental exposure to the lamp's harmful UV. It also provides a temperature stable environment for the lamp. The lamp housing condenser is a UV grade fused silica F/1 asphere or F/0.7 silica-borosilicate crown collimating lens assembly. The output beam is 1.3, 1.9 or 2.7 inches (33, 48 or 69 mm) in diameter, depending upon the condenser and wattage of the system. Click here for complete details and a dimensional diagram of the lamp housing.

Power Supply

The power supply is an OEM version of the Fully Featured Models. They run the specified lamp at the lamp's rated current and voltage. Output stability is impressive; line regulation is 0.01% and light ripple is <1%.

Short Arc Lamp

We offer sources to operate Hg, Xe and Hg(Xe) arc lamps from 50 to 1600 W. Most of the Xe and Hg(Xe) lamps are ozone free models; they do not have output below ~260 nm. If you need output below 260 nm, contact a Sales Engineer to substitute the lamp for an ozone producing model and the silica-borosilicate Aspherab® for a fused silica one.

Mounting

The housings have adjustable height instrument feet. You can remove them and hard mount the housing to an inch (1/4-20) or metric (M6) optical table or base plate. You can also mount selected housings to a bench or rail; you will need the 66075 Carrier Mounting Kit. The kit includes a clamping carrier and a base plate for the housing.

Safety Considerations

These sources emit dangerous levels of UV radiation and ozone. To protect yourself from the dangerous UV, always wear protective eyewear and gloves.

Upgrading for More Versatility

By replacing the power supplies, you can achieve more versatility, for example, multiple lamp operation and compatibility with Oriel Light Intensity Controller (see Digital Light Intensity Controller), just to name a few. The power supplies are field replaceable.
