Newports new Lens Tubes allow the combining of several optical components into stable and rigid assemblies. Included in this product family are various lengths of tubes for holding ½, 1 and 2 inch diameter lenses, as well as adaptors for mounting other types of components. Lens tubes can be used to create lens systems such as beam expanders, telescopes, microscopes, or collimators.
LT-series Lens Tubes provide a means to mount multiple lenses into a single holder. Each lens tube has an internal thread on one end and a mating external thread on the other. This allows them to be connected together end-to-end to provide endless configurations. Lenses are held in place with threaded retaining rings and one ring is included with each lens tube.
LT-F-series Focusing Tubes are provided to allow axial translation of one group of lenses relative to another. The focusing tube is simply a lens tube with a longer external thread and a locking nut. Provided in 1/2-, 1- and 2-inch diameters, the focusing tube screws into the internal threads of a standard lens tube and is locked in place with the lock nut. The maximum focusing range is 0.39-inch for 1/2- and 1-inch diameters and 0.89-inch for the 2-inch diameter version. A lens retaining ring is also included with each focusing tube.
The LT-C-series End Covers are provided to protect the optics mounted within a lens tube. Each End Cover is made with both an internal thread as well as an external thread to cover either end of the tube.
LT-EX-series Extension Tubes are used for optical systems with longer focal lengths. Made in 6-inch lengths, Extension Tubes have all the same features as standard lens tubes except that the depth of the internal threads is only 1 inch. A lens retaining ring is included with each of these Extension Tubes.
LT-LN and LT-LX Tube Couplers are used to provide a connection between two like sides of a lens tube. The -LX Coupler provides a connection between two internally threaded sides of a lens tube while the -LN Coupler provides a connection between two externally threaded sides of a lens tube. Addtionally, the -LX Coupler is provided with two lock nuts allowing short-range focusing between two lens tubes. Tube Couplers are available for 1/2-, 1- and 2-inch diameter lens tubes.
Step Adaptors allow adjacently-sized lens tubes to be coupled together. For example, the LT-S-05E10N step adaptor allows the internal thread of a 1/2-in lens tube to be coupled to the external thread of a 1-inch lens tube. Likewise, the LT-S-10E20N step adaptor allows the internal thread of a 1-in lens tube to be coupled to the external thread of a 2-inch lens tube. These two Step Adaptors can be connected together to provide a direct connection between the internal thread of a 1/2-in lens tube and the external thread of a 2-inch lens tube.
A host of special thread adaptors are provided to allow the integration of other components with the lens tubes. The thread adaptors allow adding microscope objectives with RMS threads as well as camera lenses, beam expanders or focal-plane array camera modules with C-mount threads. Another set of thread adaptors, the LT-BS1, allow lens tube integration with other Newport products such as the CH-1 cube beamsplitter mount, LP-1A series lens positioners, or LFM-1A precision focusing lens mount.
Any of the three diameters of lens tube can be post mounted using the LT-PR-series adaptors. They attach to posts via a counterbored through hole and securely hold the lens tube in place with a circumferential clamp mechanism. This style of clamping more evenly distributes the holding force and minimizes tube deformation and damage.
LT-WR series spanner wrenches are provided for retaining ring installation and removal. These tools are made with an extended lip to help hold the retaining ring in place and have hollow bodies so as not to obstruct the beam path during installation and adjustment. For 2-in. retaining rings, the SW-OM adjustable spanner wrench can be used.
