MW High Precision Hydraulic Micromanipulators are specifically designed for patch clamping, intracellular recordings and microinjection. The result of years of intensive development and testing, the MW micromanipulator is engineered to provide high precision, low drift, smooth responsive motion, and long and reliable product life.
A proprietary hydraulic mechanism reduces drift to less than 1 micron per hour at constant temperature, while providing enough travel for fine positioning. Water, the hydraulic medium, has a thermal expansion 2 to 3 times less than that of an oil-based fluid. The hydraulic mechanism is designed for field-refill if needed.*
Each manipulator axis is guided by crossed roller bearings, ensuring smooth and straight motion. The axis is actuated by hydraulic pressure via a low-friction hose connected to a rotary drum. Remote and ergonomic knob control allows smooth motion that prevents perturbation due to hand motion.
The MW micromanipulators are compatible with the most coarse manipulators, which can accommodate an 8 mm diameter rod. For optimum performance, use the MW Hydraulic Micromanipulator with the longer travel M5 Precision Micromanipulator. The MW is available in left or right configurations.
*The hydraulic mechanism incorporates proprietary leak-proof fittings. However, because hoses are permeable to water, although very slowly, it will be necessary to refill the hydraulic system every 4 years on average, depending on use. Under normal use, we expect 3 years without leakage and about 2% permeation loss through the tubes.
