The 818P-001-12 High Sensitivity Thermopile Sensor is a 3 W, 12 mm diameter thermal sensor offering the flat spectral response and the low spatial dependence of thermopiles, while retaining the high sensitivity only available with photodiodes. The 818P-001-12NIR is calibrated with a fused silica window mounted on the tube so that long wavelength (>1.36 um) thermal noise can be cut out of the measurement. Both sensors are calibratred for use with Newport brand optical power meters.
Users working with lasers in the µW and mW range will appreciate its lower thermal drift compared to the standard thermopile detectors. The sensors come with a tube screwed on the detector head which helps reduce power fluctuations from air turbulence. It is ideally suited for measuring both CW and pulsed laser diodes, OPA, HeNe Lasers (HeNe, argon, etc) or any low power laser, as well as broadband sources under 3 Watt. The 818P-001-12 and 818P-001-12NIR includes a DB15 connector and internal EEPROM for storing factory calibration data and are compatible with all Newport's power meters currently offered. When using with Newport's legacy 1835-C and 2835-C series optical meters the 818P-DIN adapter cable is required (ordered separately). Annual calibration of the thermopile sensor is recommended to assure NIST traceability. The sensor heads have a 8-32 tapped hole for easy mounting. For high power thermopile detectors we offer Thermopile Laser Power Sensors, Newport Compatible and 3 kW Thermopile Laser Power Sensor.
For Gaussian beams multiply power and energy density by a factor of 2 when comparing to online damage threshold specifications. For beams with hot spots multiply power and energy density by a factor of 3 when comparing to online damage threshold specifications.
