DescriptionSpecifications Models

Motorized micromanipulators are often used to position pipettes or probes in electrophysiology. In addition to submicron positioning accuracy and exceptional smooth movement, motorized micromanipulators allow remote actuation, which isolates hand movement, thereby improving stability.

Two of the most frequent complaints about motorized micromanipulators are their high cost and inflexible mechanical design. Using Newport’s standard products to build a motorized micromanipulator makes it possible for research scientists to overcome these obstacles. The M3 is based on standard Newport products that takes advantage of existing manufacturing processes and volumes, thereby allowing the M3 to be priced low compared to competitors. Since standard Newport products are designed to be assembled together, the components can be easily dis-assembled or reassembled to single or dual axis needs. The resulting motorized micromanipulator has the precision and functionality required to handle the most demanding applications in electrophysiology, patch clamp, intracellular recordings and microinjection.

Software & Drivers for Computer Control

A software utility is included to drive each M3 axis via computer. Automation is possible using available LabView VI's or the simple and intuitive M3 controller commands. The user can easily develop programs for specialized functions like cell wall penetration. Position memory is also available using the software commands.

To match the height of any microscope, simply insert four steel P Series Posts below the M3, see Pedestal Post System.
