Product Description
Newports Fiber Optic Fuses and Power Limiters are passive, fiber-pigtailed devices that are designed to protect expensive test and measurement components, equipment, and specialty fibers from damage due to optical power spikes and surges. These compact devices have a single input and single output fiber port. Fiber Optic Fuses are transparent when the input power is lower than the rated power. When the optical power rating is exceeded, the fuse becomes permanently opaque. Fiber Optic Power Limiters under normal operation, have no effect on the system. However, when the power rises to a certain level (Plimit), the output power transmitted will be prevented from increasing. The limiter can operate under CW input up to 7dB above Plimit, and can sustain short duration power spikes (tens of seconds) up to 10dB above Plimit. Both Fiber Optic Fuses and Fiber Optic Power Limiters can be placed at the input port of an optical device, or at the output port of a high power device such as a laser or optical amplifier.
