Product Description
Newports wide range of Fiber Optic Couplers and Wavelength Division Multiplexers (WDMs) have been developed using fused fiber technology. We employ advanced manufacturing methods and extensive environmental testing to ensure that they are suitable for applications in telecommunications, CATV, aerospace, defense, and R & D. The couplers are bi-directional and can be used to either split or combine optical signals. Single wavelength couplers provide optimal performance at center wavelengths of 633, 780, 850, 1310, or 1550 nm. Wavelength flattened couplers extend the optimal wavelength range to a band of ±40 nm around center wavelengths of 1310 or 1550 nm. Broadband couplers are operational over both the 1310 and 1550 nm wavelength windows. 1x2 and 2x2 couplers are available with coupling ratios of 50/50 (3 dB couplers) and 10/90 (10% couplers). 1x4, 1x8 and 1x16 couplers are also available. Single-mode tap couplers are designed for use in Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs), and offer optimum performance in terms of insertion loss and wavelength dependence. These components are ideal for use as input and output power monitors in applications in power and pre-amplifiers, and repeaters where signal insertion loss minimization and tap ratio wavelength independence are vital. Coupling ratios of 1% and 3% are available. Single-mode WDMs are used to separate or ...

These components are ideal for use as input and output power monitors in applications in power and pre-amplifiers, and repeaters where signal insertion loss minimization and tap ratio wavelength independence are vital. Coupling ratios of 1% and 3% are available. Single-mode WDMs are used to separate or combine optical signals at the indicated operating wavelengths, allowing bi-directional communications on a single fiber. WDMs offer high isolation between the two wavelengths with low excess loss. Newports WDMs are available for 1310/1550 nm. The latter two models are used extensively in EDFA applications, to efficiently combine the pump input (980 or 1480 nm) with signals in the 1550 nm transmission window. Multimode couplers feature 62.5/125 µm fiber using fused fiber technology, low insertion loss and a broad operating wavelength range from 800 to 1600 nm. The 1x2 and 2x2 couplers are offered in both 50/50 (3 dB) and 10/90 coupling ratios. 1x4, 1x8 and 1x16 port configurations are also available. A semi-ruggedized housing, used on WDMs and 1x2 and 2x2 couplers at 633, 780, and 850 nm, consists of a stainless steel outer housing from which 1 m long, 900 µm buffered fibers exit through molded strain relief boots. All other couplers feature a fully ruggedized black plastic housing with 1 m long, 3 mm PVC covered pigtails. Optional ST, FC and SC fiber connectors can be added to all components.
