69900 Series Digital Arc Lamp Power Supply.

The 69900 Series is our fully featured family of digital arc lamp power supplies. These supplies offer superior performance, advanced features, and are small and light weight.

The 69900 Series Operate These Arc Lamps

These supplies run our standard arc lamps from 50 to 1600 W. Refer to Table 1 to select the appropriate supply for your lamp. Our supplies can also run a number of lamps not offered by Newport. Superior Regulation and Low Ripple

Output stability is critical for many spectroscopic applications. The power supply's contribution to output stability is significant. The output of these power supplies changes by less than 0.02% even for large swings in the line voltage. Light ripple is an impressive <1% r.m.s.

The lamp itself and the lamp housing also contribute to the output stability of the source. Arc lamps suffer from arc fluctuations due to convection currents inside the lamp and arc migration on the electrodes, as well as overall aging. To minimize signal changes beyond the power supply's control, we recommend that you use our 68950 Light Intensity Controller.

Control and Monitor Lamp Remotely via PC

Power the lamp on and off; set the current/power preset and limit; and monitor the lamp's voltage, current, power, and operating time, all via your PC. These supplies include an RS 232 PC interface. An optional IEEE 488 (GPIB) interface board is available. Via one of these interfaces, you have full access to all the control and monitoring features of the power supply, from your computer. Analog signals are available for remote metering of voltage, current and power, as well as lamp start and stop for users who do not wish to use a computer.

Save Set-Ups for Multiple Lamps

You can store up to five lamp set-ups, eliminating the need to program the lamps' parameters every time you power a different lamp type.

Monitor Lamp Usage

Lamp output degrades with age. Our 69900 Series Supplies let you monitor your lamp's usage in accumulated lamp hours.

This describes our fully featured line of arc lamp power supplies. These are the supplies we include with our Research Arc Lamp Sources. We also offer a line of power supplies for Systems Integrators. These have the same superior stability, reliability and safety of the models discussed here, without all of the user features and finished packaging.

Safety Interlock Prevents Accidental Exposure

Arc lamps emit dangerous levels of UV radiation. Our power supplies have a safety interlock feature that prevents accidental opening of the lamp housing. When one of these supplies is used with an Oriel® Arc Lamp Housing, the housing door's interlock switch must be connected to the power supply's interlock socket. Accidental opening of the door will automatically shut down the power supply.

Arc Lamps Need Ignitors

Arc lamps require high voltage pulses to ignite; these are supplied by an ignitor. Once ignited, the power supply provides the necessary current and voltage to operate the lamp. Oriel arc sources use housings that have internal ignitors. If you are using a lamp housing without ignitor, you will need to purchase a stand alone ignitor. Contact a Sales Engineer for details.

When To Use A Light Intensity Controller

Although our power supplies are highly regulated, there are factors beyond the control of the power supply that may affect light output. Some of these are lamp aging, ambient temperature fluctuations and electrode erosion. If you have a stability critical application, we suggest that you use the 68950 Light Intensity Controller in order to compensate for such factors. It works in conjunction with our power supplies to maintain a stable, long term output.

Cables

These power supplies are shipped with a 6 ft. (1.8 m) long power cord, according to country. Our lamp housings are shipped with the appropriate cable(s) for the lamp.

Optional Rack Mounting

We offer an optional 3U Rack so you can mount the power supply in a standard 19 inch mounting kit rack. Cables to connect the power supply to our lamp housings are 6 ft. (1.8 m) long; the power cord is also 6 ft. (1.8 m) long.
