Applications

Call us for your systems requirements in:
  • Positioning
  • Test
  • Metrology
  • Inspection
  • Manufacturing

Custom Sub-Assemblies

These versatile and economical solutions are built exclusively from standard Newport catalog products. We add value by optimizing component performance to meet your unique requirements and we commit ourselves to the global specifications of your system by performing extensive metrology before delivery, and on-site.

This Azimuth - Elevation gimbal system positions a 350 mm diameter mirror that can be used for laser based qualification and characterization of precision optical sensors, LIDAR analysis, or target tracking. The system features RV Series Rotation Stages for the movement and high-accuracy, direct-reading rotary encoders providing ±5 mrad absolute accuracy over the full travel range.

This Azimuth - Elevation Gimbal System is used for calibration of a 150 kg rangefinder. The system features RV series rotation stages providing 0.0002° unidirectional repeatability a 150kg load capacity and +/- 15 mrad wobble.

Originally designed for the testing of guidance and bore sighting systems, this four axis gimbal can be used for any application that requires high load capacity and high speed motion such as antenna testing, LIDAR or target simulation and tracking. The Azimuth axis provides 350 degrees of motion and a positioning error of less than 0.001 degree. The Elevation axis provides +/-50 degrees of motion and a positioning error of less than 0.0006 degrees. The 1 mm X and Z translation stages provide 300 and 50 mm travel respectively.

Full Custom and Turn-key Systems These automated solutions offer an excellent return for industrial customers looking to improve process yield, productivity and performance while still cutting down on production costs. Examples include: Air-bearing Systems, Inspection Platforms, and Metrology Positioning Systems.

With our expertise in metrology and precision motion products it's no surprise that engineers and scientists call Newport when they need dedicated metrology tools. This system positions a telescope in the vertical axis while the 5 axis Kappa system positions a target for inspection and characterization. The Kappa system provides 0.001 degree resolution with a SOC of less than 20 mm. The linear stages provide 0.1 mm resolution and 6 mm accuracy.

Newport has developed an automated and customizable “Pick and Place” platform for the fiber optic industry to improve yield and eliminate errors due to manual test operations.

A large Lens adjuster custom designed for a high power laser facility in Japan. The main parts of the mount were fabricated from molded aluminum. The lens diameter is 500 mm and the travel length is 1 m.

6-Circle Multi-purpose Goniometer used to measure surface, interface, and thin film diffraction in a third generation synchrotron.

Metrology and Acceptance

Our extensive metrology capabilities, resources and expertise are employed to test, analyze, and measure critical system specifications. Each system’s performance level is certified through calibrated test equipment and documented acceptance procedures to ensure that you receive a system of the highest quality and precision.

We offer stringent quality control services customized to your specific environmental constraints. As a registered ISO9001: 2000 Company, Newport benefits from regular quality control systems maintenance and quality control systems audits.
