In addition to an extensive offering of standard catalog motion products, Newport provides custom motion systems and OEM technology platforms tailored to specific application needs. From simple sub-assemblies to complex multi-axis systems, Newports R&D department and Custom Motion Systems Business Unit collaborate with the customer in the design, engineering, manufacture and delivery of the appropriate motion system for the application. Newport will assist with the feasibility study of the application, recommend the solution that best meets the needs, and provide support throughout the lifetime of the motion system. In addition and up to final acceptance, Newport provides project management that ensures timely delivery of a motion system that meets or exceeds the expected system performance. The latter is guaranteed by extensive testing and metrology during the manufacturing process as well as on site. With Newport, you are working with an experienced system design partner with 40-plus years of motion control experience. |
Three levels of custom motion systems are typically provided: |
-
Engineered Standard Systems (see Engineered Standard Component Systems): These versatile and economical solutions are built exclusively from standard Newport catalog products. By optimizing standard component performance to meet unique application requirements, this takes advantage of short standard component lead times and leverages proven component performance. Thereby reducing risk with performance and delivery. As with any Newport motion system, global specifications of the motion system are mutually developed and proven through extensive metrology before delivery and on-site, as needed.

-
Customized and OEM Technology Platforms (see OEM Technology Platforms): Simply, Newport has a variety of motion platforms that can be configured specifically to particular applications. These automated solutions offer excellent financial returns to industrial customers looking to improve process yield, productivity and performance while still cutting down on production costs. These platforms leverage Newport's expertise in high performance motion systems that require high throughput and stability. These platforms are also tailored to be easily integrate into the customer's final machine assemblies through a secure and mutual exchange and sharing of information between the customer and Newport's technical staff. These platforms are industry-proven and pose little risk to specification performance and delivery. Examples of these successful platforms include: Air-bearing Systems and Metrology Positioning Systems.

Advanced Customized Systems (see Full Custom and Turn-key Systems): Although quite complicated and usually multi-faceted systems, these turnkey motion system products address very specific applications in various markets. These systems typically include the traditional electro-mechanical components, but also application-specific sensors or devices, the application software and system-level safety features. System level safety features are not limited to safety interlocks, but can include collision and simulation algorithms. Metrology and testing are two of the most intensive phases of the development of these systems that clearly distinguish their superb performance on site. Examples of these turnkey systems are: X-ray Diffractometers, Metrology System and Motorized Mirror Mounts.

Metrology and Acceptance |
Newport's extensive metrology capabilities, resources and expertise are employed to measure, analyze, and document critical system specifications. Each systems performance specification is certified using calibrated test equipment. Documented acceptance procedures approved by the customer, ensure that a motion system of the highest quality and precision is delivered. These metrology methods have evolved from years of experience supplying standard motion components to leading edge markets.
Newport offers stringent quality control services customized to the customer's specific environmental requirements. These could range from laboratory to vacuum environments. As a registered ISO9001: 2000 Company, Newport practices regular quality control systems maintenance and quality control systems audits. |
