818-BB Series Biased Photodiode Detectors are cost effective diagnostic tools suitable for a variety of high speed applications such as viewing of Q-switched, mode-locked, or rapidly modulated laser signals and picosecond laser alignment.
Standard photodetectors (818-BB-20, -21, -30, -31 and -40) consist of free-space, small and large area Si, GaAs or InGaAs detectors, with rise times ranging from 300 ps1.5 ns. Each unit, other than the 818-BB-40, includes a built-in bias supply consisting of standard 3 V lithium cells and a 50 ohm BNC connector output. The batteries are easily replaceable and by disconnecting the detector from the oscilloscope input, when not in use, you can extend the lifetime of the batteries. The 818-BB-40 comes with an external 24 VDC power supply.
The 818-BB-35 and 818-BB-45 photodiode detector modules offer a low-cost solution for ultra-fast measurements offering a 12.5 GHz bandwidth. These detectors are suitable for applications where detector risetime of <30 psec (<25 psec for 818-BB-35) are required for Q-switched and Ultrafast Laser output analysis. These detectors also utilize 3 V lithium cells (supplied).
The 818-BB-22 UV Enhanced Silicon Detector module consists of a silicon detector with an enhanced ultraviolet response, making it well suited for the fourth harmonic Nd:YAG, YLF or Glass Lasers and Excimer Lasers. Additionally, its large active area and fast response time make it an excellent general-purpose biased detector for the 200 to 1100 nm wavelength region. To attain its fast response, this detector comes with a 24 VDC external power supply.
The 818-BB-21A, -30A, -35A, and -45A, amplified high speed detector modules consist of Si or InGaAs detectors having a built-in amplifier with approximately up to 26 dB of gain. It is excellent for viewing rapid modulation of low-power CW lasers or other light sources in the µW regime. The detectors are AC coupled and feature a bandwidth ranging from 1.2GHz up to 10.7 GHz. A wall plug-in style power supply is provided with these units.
The 818-BB-35F, -45F, -35AF and -45AF are 1 meter long single mode fiber coupled high speed detectors with an FC connector .
The 818-BB-21TTL and-30TTL TTL photodetectors are based on our standard detectors with an additional TTL output whose threshold is adjustable, while their analog out exhibits performance characteristics on par with our equivalent standard products.

The 818-BB series is universal and will work for 110 or 220V.
* Note: for flat top or square wave pulses, negative voltages may read, due to capacitor discharge. For more details, contact a Newport application engineer.
