Features

Stability and Precision to the Limit

The Model 6100 Laser Diode and Temperature Controller offers superior performance. The 6100 generates less than 10 uA rms and 25 uA rms ripple when driving laser diodes at the midpoint of the 500 mA and 1500 mA ranges, respectively. The integrated TEC controller maintains temperature stabilities of ±0.001 ºC and ±0.002 ºC, over one hour and 24 hours, respectively. Shielded cables are also offered to prevent noise pickup from output lines and sensor inputs which results in undesirable temperature oscillations.

Flexible Laser Diode Operations

The 6100 enables you to drive laser diodes in three different continuous wave (CW) modes: constant laser diode current mode, constant photodiode current mode, and constant photodiode power. The laser diode current can be also be controlled via an external analog signal though the 25-pin I/O connector and modulated via the modulation input BNC connector. The modulation bandwidth ranges from DC to 1.4 MHz in high bandwidth mode at 500 mA. In the pulsed mode, the user can choose any one of five different modes for a variety of applications – ALWAYS ON, GATED, FREE RUN, TRIGGERED, and RETRIG. One can set up the pulse frequency and the pulse width in the ALWAYS ON and FREE RUN pulse modes. The GATED, TRIGGERED, and RETROG pulse modes utilize the TTL input signal, available throughout the Signal I/O port. Smart Laser Diode Protection

There are many modes of protection incorporated in the 6100 including, laser and photodiode current limits, compliance voltage limit, power output limit, TEC current limit, high and low temperature limits, as well as sensor and TEC open circuit detection. In addition, the 6100 can shut off the laser diode if the TEC turns off during operation. Front panel controls can also be disabled to prevent any changes by accidental adjustment of the controls.

All the important parameters are displayed and edited in a single window in the application software.

Convenient Menu-Driven or Remote Operation

Adjust laser diode driver compliance voltage, set current, current limits, modulation, bandwidth, photo diode parameters, and TEC parameters from the front panel or via the USB interface.

Impressive Software Suite to Simplify Your Work

The accompanying LIV measurement and temperature tuning software allows for measurement collection in minutes. Quick LIV measurements can be setup with input from optical power meters such as the OMM-6810B. The temperature tuning software displays the temperature change of the device under test as a function of the driving current and allows for full PID control. This software suite is the ideal, time-saving solution for developing optimal thermal management for new laser diode packages.
