66995 QTH Source with 68951 Light Intensity Controller and fiber optics.

Why These QTH Sources?

We offer several families of low wattage QTH Sources (see Table 1 for a comparison). This family is our fully featured Research Series.

Table 1 Comparison of Newport's Oriel® QTH Sources
Family  Runs These QTH Lamps  Includes These Features  Number of Output Ports
Lamp Interchange  Compatible with Light Intensity Controller  Remote Lamp Operation
 66310 Series  10 and 20 W  X      1
 Apex Series  10 to 250 W        1
 Series Q  10 to 100 W  X      2*
 Simplicity Series  50 to 1000 W        1
 Research Series  50 to 1000 W  X  X  X  1

*The Series Q has 4 output ports, but due to the asymmetrical filament of our QTH lamps, you can efficiently collect light only from the front and back of the lamps

What Makes Up These Sources?

All Oriel Sources from Newport come complete with all the necessary components to begin work. These sources include:

Lamp Housing for QTH Lamps

• 69931 Radiometric Power Supply

• Your choice of 50, 100 or 250 W QTH Lamp

• All necessary cables and mounting hardware

Lamp Housings

The lamp housing isn't just an enclosure for the lamp, it provides a temperature controlled environment to run the lamp efficiently and it holds the condensing optics and rear reflector to collect the lamp radiation. Reflector and lamp adjusters let you position the filament and its image for highest output.

Power Supply

The 69931 Power Supply runs 50 to 250 W QTH lamps, at a constant current or constant power. Via an RS 232 or IEEE 488 (GPIB) interface, you have full access to all the control and monitoring features of the power supply, from your PC. You can power the supply on and off, set the current/power preset and limit, and monitor the current, voltage, power, and operating hours. For applications requiring long-term output stability we recommend you use the 68950 Light Intensity Controller.

Easily Interchangeable Lamps

These sources run 50 to 100 W lamps. We have socket adapters to hold the lamp in a vertical (filament is horizontal) or horizontal (filament is vertical) position.

Which Source Should I Choose?

We offer a choice of seven condensers. The condenser is a lens assembly inside a barrel housing with a focusing lever. The condensers are designed to produce a collimated or focused beam. The condenser output has a female flange so you can couple male-flanged accessories, of the appropriate series size. Choose the appropriate condensing assembly based on the following considerations:

1. What wavelength range you need

2. What F/# you need

3. The size of output beam and final image size needed

* Does not include the rear reflector contribution of ~60%; click here for formulae and sample calculations to compute the approximate total output power from your source.

** QTH Lamps emit negligible radiation below 240 nm.

Mounting

The housings come with four leveling feet for free standing use. To fix the housing to an optical table or rail, remove the feet and use the 1-inch (25 mm) slots in the housing base. Order the 66075 Carrier Mounting Kit for rail or bench mounting.

Safety Considerations

QTH lamps have some UV output. Exposed personnel should wear safety eyewear and gloves. UV hazards are significantly lower for the 66997 and 66998 Sources because the condensers do not transmit below 350 nm.
