These are our fully featured, low wattage (50 to 200 W) sources of UVÂNIR, CW radiation. The small, bright arcs make them ideal for illumination of small targets. These systems come complete with all the necessary components to begin work. These sources include:
Research Arc Lamp Housings with a condenser and a built-in ignitor
Model 69907 Power Supply
Your choice of 50 - 200 W Hg, Xe or Hg(Xe) DC Short Arc Lamps
All necessary cables and mounting hardware
Lamp Housing
The housing provides a temperature controlled, stable environment for the lamp, and protects personnel from the harmful UV radiation emitted by the lamp. A number of safety features are incorporated into the housing to prevent accidental exposure and lamp overheating. The lamp is held by a socket adapter, which places the arc on the condenser axis. Lamp adjusters, located on the outside of the housing, let you precisely adjust the position to compensate for lamp tolerances.
Power Supply
The 69907 delivers constant power to the lamp, has superior stability, and can be computer controlled. An RS 232 or optional external IEEE-488 (GPIB) interface lets you remotely control and monitor the lamp's power, current, voltage and operating hours. When used in conjunction with the 68950 Digital Light Intensity Controller, you can maintain a very stable source output over the long term (over 12 hours of operation).
Easily Interchangeable Lamp
By changing socket adapters, a quick and simple operation, you can operate any of the lamps from Table 1 in the same housing. All sources come with your choice of lamp and appropriate socket adapter; please specify the lamp when ordering a source. See DC Short Arc Lamps for full lamp specifications and dimensions.

Which Source Do I Choose?
We offer eight complete sources; they differ only in the condensing lens assembly. These range from single element lenses to the aberration compensated, four element Aspherab® Condensers. The asphere condensers are "corrected optics". Their design ensures that they correct spherical aberration and lateral chromatic aberration with minimized longitudinal chromatic aberrations. Make your choice based upon:
Spectral range
Beam quality and efficiency
Output beam size
Collimated or focused beam
Use Table 2 as a guide during your selection process.

Mounting
Oriel lamp housings have adjustable height instrument feet. You can remove these and hard mount the housing to inch or metric optical tables and baseplates. The optical axis is 4.0 inches (102 mm) above the table. To mount a housing to a bench or rail, order the Carrier Mounting Kit. The kit includes a clamping carrier.
A Note on Cables
The appropriate housing to power supply cable is included with each source. If you are ordering a second lamp, of a different type (e.g. Hg vs. Hg(Xe) or Hg vs Xe), you'll need to order an interconnecting cable for the second lamp, separately.
Safety Considerations
Even with these low powered sources, UV radiation and ozone are a concern. The easiest solution to the ozone problem is to use an ozone free arc lamp if you do not need output below ~260 nm. If that is not an option, vent the ozone. Take appropriate UV safety precautions; enclose the beam or wear protective equipment.
All sources include the lamp housing, power supply and your choice of lamp and appropriate socket adapter. Please specify lamp when ordering a source.

Oriel Lamp Housings are designed to operate in a typical laboratory environment (typically 68 to 76 degrees F, up to 45% relative humidity). Temperature and humidity outside of typical laboratory range can contribute to cooling and ignition faults. Cooling issues will cause the over temperature sensor to open, and ignition problems will result from high humidity. Contact a Newport Technical Representative for more information if operating outside the suggested range.
