These sources deliver stable, low to medium power UV to NIR radiation. They run selected 200 to 500 W Xe and Hg(Xe) lamps. Xenon lamps emit a reasonably smooth continuum through the UV-VIS and some high intensity lines in the NIR. They are good broadband sources. Hg(Xe) lamps have the structure of Hg lamps in the UV and the structure of Xe lamps in the NIR. These sources consist of:
- Lamp Housing with a condenser and a built-in ignitor
- 69911 Arc Lamp Power Supply
- Your choice of lamp
- All necessary cables and mounting hardware
Why These Sources?
These systems include a power supply that allows:
- Remote control and monitoring of lamp via RS232 or external IEEE 488 computer interface
- Monitoring of lamps usage in accumulated lamps hours
- Compatibility with the Oriel® Light Intensity Control System for long term output stability
- Interchangeable lamps
Lamp Housing
These aluminum housings hold the ignitor, lamp, and collecting and collimating optics. A number of safety features protect personnel from dangerous UV and keep the lamp and optics from overheating. A socket adapter holds the lamp in the lamp housing. To switch between lamps, change the socket adapter. External adjustment knobs allow lamp position alignment.
Power Supply
The 69911 Power Supply is dedicated to Xe and Hg(Xe) lamps in the 200 to 500 watt power range. It is rugged, reliable and highly regulated. In addition to superior performance, this supply has a number of features to facilitate source operation.
Easily Interchangeable Lamp
You can operate any of the lamps listed in Table 1, in the same housing. All sources come with your choice of lamp and appropriate socket adapter; please specify the lamp when ordering a source.
The 450 W Xe lamps, models 6261, 6262 and 6266, will not run in these sources. These lamps are over 10 inches (25.4 mm) tall and do not fit in the lamp housing. The 500 W Xe lamp, model 6267, runs at 30 A; the upper current limit of the power for these sources is 25 A. Both lamp types require the 450 - 1000 W Research Arc Lamp Sources.

Which Sources Do I Choose?
Oriel offers various 200 - 500 W Xe Research Sources differing only in the lamp housing condensing lens assembly. Table 1 lists the choices. The asphere condensers are "corrected optics." The corrects spherical aberration and lateral chromatic aberration with minimized longitudinal chromatic aberrations.

Mounting
Oriel lamp housings have adjustable height instrument feet. You can remove these and hard mount the housing to inch or metric optical tables and baseplates. The optical axis is 4.0 inches (102 mm) above the table. To mount a housing to a bench or rail, order the Carrier Mounting Kit. The kit includes a clamping carrier.
Safety Considerations
These sources emit dangerous levels of UV radiation and ozone. If you do not need output below ~260 nm, choose an ozone free lamp. If this is not an option, vent the ozone to the outside or use our Ozone Eater Ozone Converter. To protect yourself from the dangerous UV, wear Ultraviolet Safety Equipment like protective eyewear and gloves.
All sources include the lamp housing, power supply and your choice of lamp and appropriate socket adapter. Please specify lamp when ordering a source.

The Oriel Lamp Housing is designed to operate in a typical laboratory environment (typically 68 to 76 degrees F, up to 45% relative humidity). Temperature and humidity outside of typical laboratory range can contribute to cooling and ignition faults. Cooling issues will cause the over temperature sensor to open, and ignition problems will result from high humidity. Contact a Newport Technical Representative for more information if operating outside the suggested range.
