69941 Mercury Arc Source.

Why These Sources?

We call these our fully featured arc sources because they have the following features, which theSimplicity Series Sourcesdo not have:

•Remote control and monitoring of lamp via RS232 or IEEE 488 computer interface

•Monitor lamp’s usage in accumulated lamps hours

•Compatible with Oriel® Light Intensity Control System for long term output stability

•Interchangeable lamps

Lamp Housing

The housing provides a temperature controlled, stable environment for the lamp, and protects personnel from the harmful UV radiation emitted by the lamp. A number of safety features are incorporated into the housing to prevent accidental exposure and lamp overheating. It also houses the ignitor and collimating lens assembly. A socket adapter holds the lamp, vertically, in the center of the lamp housing. To switch between lamps, you must change socket adapters. External adjustment knobs allow lamp centering. A reflector mounted behind the lamp collects the lamp's back radiation and redirects it to the condenser, maximizing output.

Power Supply

The 69910 power supply is dedicated to mercury lamps. It is rugged, reliable and highly regulated. It operates any of the specified lamps under extremely tight power or current control. In addition to superior performance, this supply has a number of features to facilitate source operation. You can even remotely control and monitor your source, via a PC. The 69910 includes an RS 232 computer interface; an optional IEEE-488 (GPIB) interface is also available.

Easily Interchangeable Lamp

By changing socket adapters, a quick and simple operation, you can operate any of the lamps from Table 1. All sources come with your choice of lamp and appropriate socket adapter; please specify the lamp when ordering a source.

Table 1 200 - 500 W Hg Arc Lamps
Lamp Type  Effective Arc Size  Lamp Model Number  Appropriate Socket Adapter Model
 200 W Mercury  0.6 x 2.2 mm  6283NS  66144
 350 W Mercury  0.8 x 2.7 mm  6286  66161
 500 W Mercury  1.1 x 4.1 mm  6285  66162

Which Source Do I Choose?

Various types of condensers are offered for our sources; Table 2 compares them. Each condenser assembly consists of a lens element(s) inside a barrel housing with a locking focusing lever. Our condensers are designed to produce a collimated beam, but the focusing lever lets you adjust the lens position to produce a converging or diverging beam.

The new asphere condensers are "corrected optics." Their design ensures that they are corrected spherical aberration and lateral chromatic aberration with minimized longitudinal chromatic aberrations.

Mounting

Our lamp housings have adjustable height instrument feet. You can remove these and hard mount the housing to inch or metric optical tables and baseplates. The optical axis is 4.0 inches (102 mm) above the table. To mount a housing to a bench or rail, order the 66075 Carrier Mounting Kit. The kit includes a clamping carrier.

Extended Care Plan

You can now extend the warranty on these sources to two years with the Extended Care Plan. Contact us for details.

Safety Considerations

These sources emit dangerous levels of UV radiation and ozone. If you do not need output below ~260 nm, choose an ozone free lamp. If this is not an option, vent the ozone to the outside or use our Ozone Eater. To protect yourself from the dangerous UV, wear protective clothing, eyewear and gloves.
